The National Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity was founded in December 10, 1904 in the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. The Fraternity was originally organized to join the Charleston's Chrestomathic Literary Society, which is similar to today's student government. But when then members were deined access, the members formed their own society called 'Nu Phi', which stood for 'Non-Fraternity'. On December 10, 1904, the group decided to meet and offically form the Fraternity now known as Pi Kappa Phi.
The three founding members were Andrew Alexander Kroeg, Jr., Simon Fogarty, Jr., and Lawrence Harry Mixson. Accompanying the founding fathers were Anthony Pelzer Wagener, Thomas Francis Mosimann, Theodore ('Teddy') Barnwell Kelly, and James Fogarty.
