The journey of the Nevada Associate Chapter on its path to Chartering with Pi Kappa Phi has been a tumultuous one, fraught with successes, disappointments, frustrations, growths and losses, and triumphs. Through it all, however, the gentlemen of the chapter have persevered, growing stronger together with the survival of each setback, gaining renewed confidence and justified swagger with each victory and milestone, and ultimately, truly learning what brotherhood really and fully entails.
The Nevada Associate Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity was colonized on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno in the early days of February, 2005. At the time of colonization, the chapter became the ninth social fraternity in the UNR Greek system. Within the first semester of its existence, the Nevada Pi Kapps made a name for themselves by winning Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash philanthropy event. By the end of their first full year on campus, the Pi Kapps further added to their reputation of philanthropic competitiveness by also winning the Delta Delta Delta's Pancake Prince title for their philanthropy, as well as winning Pi Beta Phi's 'Pi a Phi' competition, thus winning the philanthropy competitions of three of the four social sororities on campus (and placing second in the fourth sorority's competition). This success has continued with a second place showing in the most recent Delta Gamma Anchor Splash (Pi Kapps won 5 of the 6 sub events), winning Pi Beta Phi's 'Pi a Phi' again, and again placing highly in Kappa Alpha Theta's 'Mr. Casanova'.
Within the realm of fundraising, Pi Kappa Phi's efforts haven't been confined to the sororities philanthropies. When the Hurricane Katrina disaster struck New Orleans, the chapter's Vice Archon was called away (as an Army National Guard medic) to provide aid to Americans in need. The Pi Kapps were inspired to help out as well and raised over $1200 in little over 24 hours through a series of collection jugs across campus. Over the summer, Pi Kappa Phi's own DJ Miller participated in the National PUSH America's Journey of Hope, raising money and riding a bicycle across the US with 50 other Pi Kapps to raise awareness of people with disabilities. Nevada Pi Kapps have also represented the chapter at numerous national conventions, including sending two delegates to the 50th Supreme Chapter of the National fraternity.
